we can begin to analyze them using inferential statistics—procedures for drawing conclusions about a population based on data collected from a sample. Inferential statistics involve the use of procedures for drawing conclusions based on the scores collected in a research study and going beyond them to make inferences about a population. In the following chapter (Chapter 5) we will describe two inferential statistical tests—the z test and t test. Both of these are parametric tests—tests that require us to make certain assumptions about estimates of population characteristics
